Squamish UFC fighter looks to keep perfect pro record on Saturday

Jamey-Lyn Horth Wessels looks to improve to 2-0 as she faces Veronica Macedo on Saturday, Dec. 2; Cleveland Tavern to air the bout for locals.

Squamish UFC fighter, Jamey-Lyn Horth Wessels, takes to the octagon tomorrow looking to improve to 2-0 in the UFC and remain undefeated in her professional career.

Horth Wessels is taking on Veronica Macedo (who has also been called Veronica Hardy) at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas on Dec. 2. The fight is part of the preliminary card, which starts at 1 p.m. local time.

The two will face off in the flyweight category. Macedo’s overall record is 7-4-1 versus Horth Wessels’ 6-0-0. Macedo returned to the UFC earlier in 2023 after taking a couple of years away from the fighting. In her first fight back, Macedo won via unanimous decision.

Horth Wessels is taller and has a longer reach than Macedo, which in turn can help keep smaller opponents at bay.

Additionally, Horth Wessels told The Squamish Chief in September that she is familiar with Hardy, as she met and trained with Macedo years ago in 2019 when she held a fight camp in Vancouver.

“Since then, obviously, she's progressed as an athlete,” said Horth Wessels of Macedo in September.

But, Horth Wessels also said at the time she was in the early days of her fighting career, so she has also progressed.

The Cleveland Tavern has announced on Instagram that it will be airing the fight on Saturday, the same as they did for Horth Wessels’ first bout. In April, the local pub drew a large Squamish crowd cheering on the local fighter, which erupted with cheers after her win.

The post says they will be raffling off prizes and fundraising for Horth Wessels during the event.

Horth Wessels has posted several updates on Instagram since her arrival in Austin. Keep up with her there at instagram.com/jameyhorth.
