Squamish's Minor Titans are a major league threat. The team is in second place in its division of the Gordon Sturtridge Football League. "We've got a really good team," said Eric Frappier, one of the coaches.

The Squamish Bantam Eagles may have the loudest fans in minor hockey - but they're earning the accolades. Amid clanging cowbells and noisy shouts, the team beat the Langley B1 team 4-0 Saturday (Oct. 23) at Brennan Park Arena.

The underachievers are now the team to beat in the Howe Sound Men's Soccer League. The Brew Pub men's soccer team has the highest points in the league this year. But for three years, it was at the bottom of the scoring.

It was a humid, hot, windy and grueling race through lava fields, crowded water and harsh terrain, but Mae Palm finished seventh in her category at the Ironman Triathlon World Championships in Kailua-Kona Hawaii on Oct. 16.

It was sweet and it was worth waiting for. The Howe Sound Sounders football team won their first game of the season last Sunday. The team won 21-18 against the Mission Roadrunners. "It's uplifting," said coach Rex Reece.

Neal Kindree has biked his way up hills and down hills and through woods all over British Columbia and he's arrived at an unexpected place. Cycling BC has named him Mountain Bike Athlete of the Year for 2004. "I'm pretty excited," Kindree said.

Some old guys are back on the hockey bench - and back on the ice. There's a new hockey league in Squamish for players over 50, and it's bringing out guys who haven't played hockey in years.

Squamish's Owen Carney, one of the founders of the Whistler Weasel Workers, will be inducted into the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame on Nov. 13 in Ottawa.

Run as fast as you can. It's a guiding principle of Squamish's flag football team, the Blue Bullets. The Bullets, aged six to nine, don't tackle, but they still work hard on the field.

GM Place is dark, but Brennan Park Arena will still be hopping with some fast, clean hockey this fall. The Howe Sound Men's Hockey League is ramping up for its 26th season with four teams and a renewed sense of fair play.
