I’m going to make a confession here: I don’t really groom. Don’t get me wrong, I shower, I brush my teeth, I shave – well, at least a couple of times a week – but I don’t “manscape.

Last week my mother came from out of province to help take care of my two girls while I worked. My daughters had the week off school while their teachers had professional development time.

I found Claude Richmond’s Feb. 19 letter “Speaking up for B.C.’s resource industry” to The Squamish Chief ironically amusing.

As I read through the articles on SquamishChief.com, it’s quite apparent most are about the WLNG plant.

Greek mythology has it that Sisyphus, the king of Ephyra, was condemned by the gods to continually push a boulder up a hill only to watch it roll back down.

When I decided to turn down a letter of acceptance into UBC Sciences four years ago to come to an unknown liberal arts university in Squamish, my friends and family were understandably skeptical.

Only one group of people can elevate a community beyond the ordinary to make it a truly great place to live. It’s not its government.

Like many Squamish residents, I have attended several open house and information meetings held during the past year regarding Woodfibre LNG and FortisBC project proposals, all of which I found very educational.

The tail is still wagging the dog.

Although long retired as an MLA and cabinet minister, I still take an active interest in B.C. and the events and issues that define our province.
