Bug bites are an irritation of spring and summer that we may be accustomed to, but in some circumstances they can also be quite serious. In Canada there are two main disease concerns from mosquitoes and ticks: West Nile Virus and Lyme disease.

Anticipating a stellar summer

Editor, Personal attack aside, I'd like to address the inaccuracies in Sam Gerski's letter ("Anti-GAS hot air," The Chief, April 9). First, the local opposition to GAS extends far beyond Catherine Jackson, myself and a few others.

Editor, I couldn't believe my eyes last week when I read that Squamish council was considering taking the municipal vote away from non-resident property owners ["Council recommends no vote for non-resident property owners," The Chief April 9].

I don't remember the exact time, but sometime this year I discovered I have spidey-sense.

Editor, In reply to the many complaints about GAS: Losing a small bit of Sea to Sky's already robust recreational area sounds like quite the deal for a multi-billion-dollar development.

The provincial government's new lobbyists registration law appears to have prompted former Liberal campaign co-chair Patrick Kinsella to make his activities public. Public Eye has been reporting on those activities since 2004.

There was much backslapping and congratulatory remarks at Municipal Hall this week following the surprise announcement of the new Squamish Service Initiative to revamp local governance.

It all started a few years back when I seemed to pay more attention to what I put into my mouth. Then, I heard one of the great baker ladies of our time rejoice in the qualities of chocolate.

Editor, It seems Mr. Demers and Mr. Smith took umbrage at letters written re: salary increases for mayor and council ["Council pay is a barrier," "In support of a salary Raise(r)," The Chief,April 9].
