I am writing to congratulate the Brackendale Babes and the other teams that participated this year in the relay for life.

Things are starting to heat up on the protective services front in the Shining Valley. For starters, local businesses have had 28 break-ins in eight weeks.

I sat and listened to the David Suzuki talk the other week. He scared the living s**t out of me! It is green this and green that these days. Local, provincial and federal government alike are talking environment.

I recently visited my hometown of Squamish and learned that the landfill will be closed and options to transfer or incinerate the garbage are being considered. Both options do not seem like options at all.

With lots of snow still capping the Coastal Mountains, it's really easy for residents to ignore the warnings from area fire officials that this could be a devastating year for wildfires in this region. It could also be dangerous perhaps even fatal.

As SORCA members are having one of the greatest seasons this year, I would like to thank all the volunteers that have made this action-packed schedule possible for all members of SORCA and the outdoor adventurers of Squamish.

Stop. I'm warning you. Don't do it. Don't post that photo online, send that email or text that message - unless, that is, you want it spread to friends, family, co-workers and possibly even complete strangers around the world.

Squamish is the epitome of a Canadian multi-cultural community. From our Coast Salish people who have lived here since time immemorial to Quest University students who come from all continents, we as a community embrace and celebrate our differences.

"Feel the sun on your face and the wind in your hair. Get fit. Save money," the ads promise.
