There’s a nasty little turf war going on in the Shining Valley. It’s all about power and control issues, jurisdictional disputes, and of course, squabbles about errant deposits of doggie doo-doo. Welcome to the Squamish condo scene, folks.

With the crazy housing crisis that has hit Squamish, I feel compelled to write a letter. I first moved to Squamish in 1997 and bought a small, two-bedroom starter home. I started a small marketing business in 2003, which I still operate.

At the recent forum regarding the affordability of home ownership in Squamish, someone finally connected that good-paying jobs in the community will make homeownership more affordable to families.

Re: “Rafe Mair questions LNG,” letter to the editor (Feb. 18). Anyone who believes that an agreement signed by many people and nations to reduce climate change is an immediate statement to stop the use of all fossil fuels is pretty naive.

I f you’re reading this column, then I take my hat off to you, sir or ma’am. That’s because you, gentle reader, are supporting your community newspaper.

I have lived and worked in Squamish for more than 25 years. I walked and rode local trails, never imagining I would be in a wheelchair.

I t’s society’s hidden, ugly secret. Across Canada, women and men of all ages are forced into sexual acts, then left injured and confused, wondering whether to report it to authorities and seek justice.

I read “Sex assault survivors seek justice” (Feb. 11) and wish to clarify something.

A ccording to the strategic plan endorsed by our municipal council last summer, Squamish is slated to become a hub for entrepreneurs, change agents and innovators.

I am surprised that I thought things would change under the new government.
