Having been first elected way back in 1996, I remember some of the pioneers of our great town tell me to always plan for tomorrow and not today. I have taken those words to heart ever since in both my personal life and my political life.

Summer is here and wildflowers are beginning to bloom around Squamish. Take a moment to inspect a flower close up, and you will be amazed at the intricate architecture you find inside.

EDITOR, Canada Day is local. All you have to do is get into the celebration in a place such as Squamish to appreciate that, as I did this past Canada Day.

EDITOR I was dismayed to again be at an official event (Canada Day) where helium balloons were being given out. One only needed to watch for a few minutes to see how many were immediately being let go into the environment.

EDITOR, Re. "Lying Libs and the HST," Letters, Chief, July 1). I get a real kick out of these NDP people that try to muddy up the water by trying to bring other issues that belong to another forum.

EDITOR, As a member of the Squamish climbing community since 1972, I read with interest your article on a proposal to build a tourist gondola leading to upper Shannon Creek ("'Sea to Sky Gondola' concept launched," Chief, July 1).

Happy Canada Day, everyone! Perhaps the official ceremonies (starting at 10:45 a.m.) for Canada Day will be over by the time you read The Chief today, but there is ongoing entertainment at Pavilion Park in downtown Squamish for all the family.

EDITOR, I will be voting "Yes" to get rid of the HST in the current referendum. The Liberals have piled lies on top of lies. They lied when they said the HST wasn't on their radar screen before the last election.
