Mental health is an issue for all of us yet it often remains hidden because of a stigma that persists in society. The more we know, however, the better we understand the issue. As we get older we look forward to retirement, travel and new pursuits.

I now know why it's called Thanksgiving: It's because that's what empty-nest parents do on Monday when their adult children leave and head back to wherever they live. "Thank God they're gone again," goes the sigh.

Editor, I am outraged about the District of Squamish hiring a trapper to kill beavers along Loggers Lane ("District trapper kills 12 beavers," The Chief, Oct. 20). Squamish residents take great pride in the area's natural beauty.
