I have been talking to campsite owners for several stories lately and it led me to thinking. One of the best memories of my childhood is of acting out stories with my family of seashells while camping on Vancouver Island.

A move toward national park status is needed for Howe Sound immediately. Howe Sound is a spiritual and recreational place for Vancouver, tourists and seaside communities of B.C.

This town has more issues in need of scratching than an outbreak of the mange at the dog pound. For starters, let’s talk about public transit. At the moment, less than two per cent of Squamish residents use that service.

Like many Squamish music lovers, I was saddened to learn of Tragically Hip front man Gord Downie’s terminal brain cancer diagnosis.

Re: “A river runs through it” (June 2). Electricity from independent power producers is bought by BC Hydro under long term contracts to meet the energy needs of BC electricity customers.

I read with interest MLA Jordan Sturdy’s column in The Squamish Chief addressing a potential road to the Sunshine Coast. I agree that linking B.C. communities with a reliable and accessible transportation network is important.

Perhaps as a result of the rapid change and growth in Squamish, social media sites including local Facebook pages are full of discussions about real estate prices, rental hikes and who belongs in town.

Regarding Helmut Manzl’s non-evaluation of our council (Squamish Insider column, June 2): I see this group doing almost nothing but spend and tax. The vast majority of the residents here are not going to any love fest.
