I rarely find it necessary to write a letter to you. I would rather reach out to the public through the regular channels. However, when the regular channels fail me I have little choice.

People are now beginning to discuss the merits of the referendum that will be held on Saturday, Feb 26. The question is about borrowing up to $20 million to build facilities many people feel are needed in the community.

How are you coping with GAWS? Many people deal with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) during the winter months. Here in B.C., we've got GAWS - Government Advertising Withdrawal Syndrome. GAWS started to take hold in B.C.

We are going to the polls Feb. 26 to vote to either increase our municipal taxes to build some more amenities or to tell council we're not prepared to pay more no matter how council intends to improve the community.

Threats to Brackendale's identity Editor, I can see the need for a new Squamish "brand" since we apparently can't use "The Heart of 2010". After wholeheartedly backing the bid we find ourselves left out in the rain, so to speak.

That does it! I keep thinking there is simply no way this town can keep going like this, it's simply not possible. But sure enough, we turn around and lo and behold, Squamish once again takes it to a whole other level.

You might think that in the email era, postal service would mean less and less to the people of Squamish. But that's clearly not the case.

According to the Alzheimer Society of BC, 41,000 people in this province have Alzheimer disease. But for most people, 41,000 is too big a number. It all comes down to one person - the person they know with the disease. My grandmother has Alzheimer's.

Could it happen here? That was likely one of the first questions in many people's minds in B.C. after reacting to the horror of last month's tsunami tragedy in southeast Asia.

Oh, the humanity! The hand-wringing over potentially losing our precious "Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada" slogan in last week's letters section (beautifully orchestrated with Bryan Raiser, I note) was just about too much to bear.
