Squamish has recently been described by The New York Times as one of the must-visit locations of 2015. CNN deemed Squamish the best mountain town in North America to visit in the summer of 2014.

I have been coming to Squamish for recreation for 50 years, and I applaud the efforts by the province to reintroduce elk. But so many cars now pass by and so fast they are like bullets to the elk, which are always on the move.

Eleven years ago, when the District of Squamish received the oceanfront lands from the provincial government, it was greeted with considerable excitement and buzz.

I was strolling to work on Cleveland Avenue the other day, and as I passed the empty glassed façade of a former business plastered with a “For Rent” sign, I lamented all the different places that were now closed.

As a Squamish resident and taxpayer for the past six years, I want to add my voice to the concerns raised by former mayor Rob Kirkham in his recent letter on the Fortis Gas permit denial.
